April 1922. Tom regrets what happened last night. Edna tries to blackmail Tom's potential pregnancy, and wants to marry her. Mrs Hughes finds Edna in the room a book about contraception and exposes her. Edna leaves Downton. Rose, Mary and Tom go to London and visit with lady Rosamund. She accidentally invites Lord Gillingham. They go to a jazz club, where rose dances with a black singer than very confused by their relatives. Anna avoids Bates, to his complete bewilderment. She leaves their cottage and asks Mrs. Hughes to go back to the room for servants. Mr. Gregson tells Edith that he wants to become a citizen of Germany, because under German law he could divorce his insane wife, and then he and Edith were married. Edith spends the night with Gregson. Lady Rosamund finds out about it and warns Edith: it may seriously damage its reputation. Lord Gillingham going after Mary from London to Downton, confesses his love for her and asks for her hand. Mary refuses, arguing that Matthew still owns her heart.
